Overview

Wales is an amazing mix of old castles, sandy beaches, green mountains, and lots of sheep!

Wales has a well-developed railway network. The main railway company is Arriva. There are trains operating between and Wales as well. Major Welsh cities served by trains are Cardiff and Swansea. The railway network is denser in the southern region of Wales.

Cityscape

You must visit Cardiff, Wales’ capital, with its castle, its museum and its bay. Then take the train to Bangor. It’s a little city but as there are lots of students it’s a lively place. Jump on a First Great Western train to reach Swansea where you will enjoy the lovely quay lined with beautiful boats, and since you’re here, go and see the Glynn Vivian Gallery.

Landscape

Travelling by train will enable you to discover that Wales has countless castles. Trekking in one of the three National Parks, you may enjoy the view made up with lakes, rivers, and coastline. If you are looking for beaches, go to Llanduno or see the West Shore’s sandy dunes.

Take Home

You should get a train to Wrexham; it is a lovely and charming place to go shopping, where you will like to walk around the market and the arcades. Or you can take the train to Pwllheli. Nearby the train station you will find the street shops and markets.

Eat & Drink

Cardiff provides great eateries where you can find traditional dishes as well as New World sophistication. Fish and ships is easy to find, but since you are in Wales, try lamb stew or welsh faggots. Taste the chwisgi, the local whisky.

New Perspective

Climb to the summit of Snowdon (1,085 metres high), and visit the Hafod Eryri centre, the thrills and spills of the views will be memorable.

"The train departed on time and arrived on time. The conductor was polite and multilingual. The only issue was that someone was sitting in my allocated seat but that did not bother me as there were other seats available that had the same comfort level. "

"Would thoroughly recommend travelling by train from Paris to London. Train was easy to access, comfortable and affordable. The weather conditions delayed departure time however that was unavoidable. First class carriage was very comfortable and the breakfast served was an unexpected delight. Will certainly repeat this experience in the future. "

"Excellent service although all the tickets booked through Raileurope we received the worst seats available. Either no windows (the panel seats) and/or facing backwards. W booked early and though we would get better seats. Rest of service was excellent. "
