Overview

A wonder of nature, that’s what Norway is. Sparkling fjords water, majestic mountains, beautiful valleys and wild forests, you will love it!

Norway has a railway network which consists of over 4,000 km of tracks. Narvik, a city in north of Norway, has the one of the northernmost railway stations in the world. Norway has an international railway connection with Sweden. The national railway company of Norway is called the Norges Statsbaner AS, known in English as the Norwegian State Railways (NSB). The company operates diesel and electric trains.

Norway spreads along an extensive 25,000 km of wild coast characterised by lofty mountains which plunge into the North Atlantic Ocean. Exploring Norway’s pure natural beauty is one of the best experiences one can have in Scandinavia. From glaciers and crystalline fjords to picturesque cities of Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen, Norway has only the very best to offer!

Cityscape

Arriving by train in Oslo, discover the 17th century Quadrangle district and visit the Akershus Festning, a castle housing interesting museums. Go North to Bergen where fruit and fish market and wooden houses are waiting for you. Admire the fjords going to Trondheim with its gothic cathedral or stroll around Stavanger’s old town and harbour.

Landscape

Travelling by train is a good way to discover the picturesque countryside of Norway. Pine forests to have a breath of fresh air, fjords for sailing, cliffs for paragliding, mountains for skiing, you will be spoiled for choice. Hop on a train to the Arctic Nordkapp to see the midnight summer sun, it is just amazing.

Take Home

Buy a traditional lusekofte jumper, formerly featuring a black and white design, and a snowflake-print hat to have the complete outfit. If you prefer luxurious dishes, bring back plates from Porsgrund Porcelain. Lovers of cheese, succumb to the gammelost, speciality of Norway!

Eat & Drink

Elks and reindeers are excellent game speciality. If you are not afraid about testing local food, try the raksfisk (fermented trout). Dries cod, smoked lamb’s head or tørrfisk are a sample of what you can find in the gastronomy of Norway.

New Perspective

Take a train and go to Aurlandsfjord’s cliffs. There, climb to Aurland Lookout and live a one of a kind experience winning over your vertigo.

"The train departed on time and arrived on time. The conductor was polite and multilingual. The only issue was that someone was sitting in my allocated seat but that did not bother me as there were other seats available that had the same comfort level. "

"Would thoroughly recommend travelling by train from Paris to London. Train was easy to access, comfortable and affordable. The weather conditions delayed departure time however that was unavoidable. First class carriage was very comfortable and the breakfast served was an unexpected delight. Will certainly repeat this experience in the future. "

"Excellent service although all the tickets booked through Raileurope we received the worst seats available. Either no windows (the panel seats) and/or facing backwards. W booked early and though we would get better seats. Rest of service was excellent. "
